About the tour

The Sacred Valley tour is one of the most recommended and popular in the Cusco region. In the days of the Incas, this fertile valley became an area for the construction of real properties and country houses for the Incas. Because the valley was surrounded by mountains (Apus) which the Incas considered sacred, ceremonial centers and precincts were built for the religious group of the time.

The sacred valley developed great agricultural importance in these fertile lands in which corn was harvested in abundance. Corn was a prestigious crop for the Incas, to make “chicha” (fermented corn) that the Incas and their subjects consumed in their ceremonial feasts.

On this full day of touring the Sacred Valley, you will visit impressive constructions of cities such as Pisac, Ollantaytambo that still work in their water sources from the rivers of the mountains as well as Chinchero. The tour of the Sacred Valley will take you through the local villages and meet the local people with their traditional costumes, which will add an unforgettable experience to your trip including a stop for the Buffet Lunch in the cozy town of Urubamba.

Some tourists choose to finish the tour in Ollantaytambo to make their trip by train to Machu Picchu. Our company Cuye Travel Peru organizes the Sacred Valley of the Incas, every day, with the best guides available to provide the best of their knowledge.

Archaeological Complex and Traditional Pisac Market

In our private transport we went to the sacred valley, obtaining fantastic views during the route. At approximately 8:30 a.m.

There will be a guided tour of the Citadel of Pisac and we will see temples, houses, altars, sculptures, tunnels, caves, the famous Intihuatana, "The position of the hitch of the sun" and the large areas of huge andeneries to farmland and the pre-Hispanic cemetery. We will continue our tour visiting the artisan market to later go to the town of Urubamba where we will taste a delicious buffet lunch.

Lunch in Urubamba

13:00 Approx. Buffet lunch in Urubamba.

Ollantaytambo Archaeological Complex

After lunch we will go to the town of Ollantaytambo, one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the Inca Empire. The Ollantaytambo complex is strategically located to dominate the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

We will visit the temple of the sun, as well as observe the enormous blocks of perfectly carved and polished rock, stone water fountains, stairs and terraces.

The local people of Ollantaytambo are very proud of maintaining their traditions and will see them wearing beautiful typical dresses. This village is surrounded by its local sacred mountains and the valley of Patacancha and Willoq. This is the only indigenous town that still exists in our society surrounded by different Apus that protect this impressive complex of terraces that in its time was of agricultural and religious use.

Chinchero

On the return route to Cusco we will visit Chinchero known as the town of Arco Iris, the most typical town in the Sacred Valley, a distinctly Inca town flanked by the snow-capped Salkantay and Veronica. Chinchero has Andean communities which still maintain the habit of weaving their mantles in an ancestral way and painting them with natural colors.

18:30 approx. Arrival to the city of Cusco.
