About the tour

On the banks of the Apurímac River, in the Cusco region and 3,700 meters above sea level, lies the Q’eswachaka Bridge, an important Inca legacy that has endured for more than six centuries. This impressive engineering work, 28.67 meters in length, is made of straw and stone, and was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2013.

Each year, an amazing renewal of the bridge takes place. Community members gather to dismantle the previous year’s bridge, dropping its foundations into the river. Immediately, women and children collect the qoya-ichu, the straw material used to construct the foundations of the new bridge.

Pickup from the hotel will be between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. Once the group is complete, we will head south from Cusco. Our first stop will be in Cusipata, where we will enjoy a delicious breakfast. Then, we will continue the tour, passing through the district of Yanaoca, where we will visit a small volcano.

Afterward, we will travel for another hour to the district of Quehue, where the famous Inca bridge Q’eswachaka is located. This bridge, built with plant fiber, is 28.67 meters long and is impressively rebuilt every June by four local communities. We will have time to explore Q’eswachaka and its surroundings, while the guide tells us the history of this ingenious Inca structure.

After visiting the bridge, we will continue to the Mososqllaqta viewpoint, where we will admire the Pampamarca and Asnaqocha lagoons. Then, we will head to another viewpoint to observe the Acopia and Pomacanchi lagoons, enjoying the rich flora and fauna of the region and immersing ourselves in Andean culture. After touring the four lagoons, we will return to Cusipata for a delicious lunch. After lunch, we will return to Cusco, arriving at approximately 4:30 or 5:00 p.m.
