About the tour

The tour of the midday valley to the south of Cusco, includes visits to the magnificent archaeological complex of Raqchi, near the Vilcanota River. The Raqchi complex was built in honor of the god Viracocha. In addition we will travel to the beautiful temple of Tipón in Tipón, near Puno. In Tipon, the Incas built an impressive irrigation system in harmony with nature. We will be exploring  the South Valley in Cusco, the pre-Inca site of Piquillacta, which it was constructed by the Wari culture and finally a visit to the colonial Chapel of San Pedro Apóstol of Andahuaylillas. This chapel is better known as the Sistine Chapel of southern Cusco known for its wealth of art inside compared in some way with its counterparts in Europe.

To take advantage of this half-day tour of the Valle del Sur, Cusco, we will have to leave Cusco early. While traveling south, our first visit will be in Tipon, Pikillacta and Andahuaylas.

Our company Cuye Travel Peru organizes the South Valley: Tipón, Andahuaylillas and Pikillaqta, every day, with the best guides available to provide the best of their knowledge.

Places to visit:

  • Tipón

TIPON

Studies carried out by local archaeologists on the Inca ruins of Tipón in the foothills of Cerro Pachatusan (Apu tutelary important in the Andean religiosity), established that it was a park for the upper class or an agricultural center. This large area contains 12 impressive terraces finely carved in stone. More impressive is the irrigation system that continues to operate and continues to irrigate crops until today. At the end of our visit to Tipon we will go to Pikillaqta.

PIKILLAQTA

Pikillaqta was a major pre-Inca major urban center that was important for the development of the Huari Empire. In this ancient city, you can see buildings of all kinds such as colcas (food deposits), athletic fields, houses, temples, narrow streets and buildings up to four stories high. Here we delight with the surroundings of the place to continue our journey to Andahuaylillas until we complete our tour through the South Valley in Cusco.
