About the tour

Cuye Travel Peru, invites you to participate in an adventure in the Andean of the Colca Canyon with your family or friends. This route that reaches more than 4,000 meters above sea level will allow you to appreciate landscapes of snow-capped volcanoes, picturesque Andean villages and its people maintaining their traditional lifestyle.  Also you will see the majestic flight of the condors, native animals like llamas, alpacas, guanacos and vizcachas in their natural habitat.

On this rural areas, native people keep the way their ancestry Inca managed to cultivate the land using terraces. There will be an opportunity to taste the delicious typical food of the Colca Valley.  This is a tour on the Colca Canyon of 2 days and 1 night.

The Colca Canyon will surprise you, with a route designed by Cuye Travel Peru, full of culture, impressive fauna and fabulous landscapes.

Day 1: Arequipa - Patapampa - Chivay

The Cuye Travel Peru transport will pick you up at your hotel at 8:00 am to travel the route to the Colca Canyon. In this section of the trip we will pass through Pampa de Arrieros and Pampa Cañahuas. This side of the land will give us the chance to see Llamas, Alpacas, Vicuñas, Vizcachas and migratory birds.

At some point before climbing, we will take a break in Viscachani and arrive to Patapampa. The images of the sacred volcanoes surrounding the landscape will impress us. The mountains of the Hualcahualca, the Sabancaya and the Ampato dominate the scene with their snowy peaks, forming part of a large volcanic chain.

Then, the descent starts until we will arrive to Chivay and have a lunch with typical food of the Colca Canyon. In Chivay you can visit the church and talk with the local people who are very friendly. Around 15:00, we will visit the thermal baths of La Calera. The waters of these baths are thermo-medicinal, having temperatures higher than 40 ° C.

Dinner will be at 18:00 in a restaurant where you can see typical dances and return later to the hotel in Chivay.

Day 2: Chivay - La Cruz Del Condor - Yanque

Breakfast will be early, so we can leave with plenty time in direction to the ‘Cruz del Cóndor’. In the two-hour visit to this attraction you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Colca Canyon and see closely the flight of the sacred Andean bird: the Condors. These birds glide in the early hours of the morning through the nearby chasms.

We will continue the tour and appreciate landscapes of terraces, agricultural Inca terraces that are still in use today. We will pass through the villages of Pinchollo, Maca and Achoma.  Later we have a stop in Yanque, a town of live culture where people celebrate with Andean music and traditional costumes, and visit their colonial church with unique pieces of art and painting. We will also visit the craft center where artisans use millinery techniques to create the art of the Colca Valley.

Around 12:00 we will arrive to Chivay to have lunch have a rest and finally board the return bus to Arequipa, arriving there at around 17:00 hours.

What should I take?

  • Sneakers, T-shirts, pants, shorts, poncho for the rain (November - March)
